Does lowering ping help when playing games?
I need some tips to make my Xbox Series X run faster while playing games. My ping is usually between 35 and 50, but it gets worse around lunchtime going up to 60 or even 100. I live in an apartment building so maybe other apartments are messing things up? I don't use regular wifi; I connect directly with ethernet from my phone. My internet company is Comcast, and they share their lines when too many people are using them at the same time, which might cause problems later in the day. It's hard to tell if that explains why ping goes high after work hours, but Call of Duty needs low lag so much I'm looking for advice on how to lower it. If you have any other device settings or tips that could help, please let me know! Thanks, Xbox Series X Settings: 1080p at 120 Hz, connected via ethernet, using Open NAT with custom DNS (Google's servers), speed is high for both download and upload, I don't use port forwarding, screen size is a big curved TV monitor, latency mode is on the highest setting.
The path of data goes like this: Your game unit, then your modem/router, then the internet, then the game server, and back to you. Anything past your modem is out of your reach. You can only cut down on how much other stuff uses up that traffic. If there are other things connected to the Internet, turn them off while playing. Be careful though; sometimes cutting other devices doesn't help if Comcast shares lines or heavy usage slows it all down. -Wolf sends
You can try using some other services like wtfast and connect to a server nearby. If your internet provider is busy, your connection might slow down because it goes over slower roads. You probably won't even be able to host things if you only use a proxy. If you have too much buffer buildup in your computer memory, the speed usually drops way more than normal unless you turn that setting really low. You'd need to keep downloading for a long time without stopping to see this happen again.
