Hey guys, I just started messing with graphics settings to try and make my FPS higher in CS:GO but I was hoping for way more. Before I even touched any settings at the high end, getting about 360fps felt pretty good. After turning down everything to medium, I hit 388fps. Then I set everything all the way down to low and got a max of 400fps. Even after disabling some other stuff in CS:GO, I still only got exactly 400fps, nothing more than that. Next time I changed things around my NVIDIA GPU (these are the settings I applied) and again, it just stuck at 400fps, not even a tiny bit higher. Obviously something is stopping me from going above 400fps, right? Or why would it keep giving me that max number all the time? By the way, I'm using the Windows 10 gaming bar to check my performance. Specs: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X on an ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming motherboard, an NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super OC, 8GB Gskill Trident RGB RAM, 32GB DDR4 K2 memory, a Samsung 970 Evo Plus SSD, and a 1TB AUROS FI32Q monitor with 2560x1440 resolution for all above settings.
So, I figured I had a strong computer with plenty of memory that I didn't even get to using it all.
You probably have hit the limit for CPU frame generation. The game CS:GO is very demanding on the processor, so it might only use a few of your available threads. To check this, run the CPU-Z benchmark and see what your single-thread rating says. It should be around 569 according to that link: https://valid.x86.fr/bench/9ly8hi
Think about this differently. Sometimes the graphics card keeps up with the computer, but sometimes it lags behind because the processor and memory are working together. The GPU can never run faster than your CPU or RAM, since it comes after them in the process of making frames to show on your screen. CS:GO is limited by how strong one single core is. Most games actually follow this rule, so saying the graphics card matters more for everything isn't true.
It all depends on what you are playing. Sometimes the graphics card does a lot of work for the computer instead of the processor. But usually, if the graphics card isn't working hard enough, it means the CPU is struggling. If the graphics card is working too hard, then the graphics card itself might be the problem.
