Does anyone still play DayZ?
Recently I've learned that DayZ has received a major update that has significantly changed the experience, making it somewhat less enjoyable and removing certain features. I'm curious about how active the community is now with this game. I recall the initial excitement and strong desire to play it, but after purchasing my PC and downloading the game, I found it empty. About a year ago, I still feel the urge to try it again, though I'm unsure if it's worth it, especially since I don't have anyone to play it with.
My main concerns remain valid:
- Without a custom server, starting will inevitably lead to death because of dehydration and lack of food. There aren't enough resources in spawn zones.
- Servers with available slots are always running in night mode, making gameplay impossible.
This has always been a big problem for me too, because playing solo only makes the game ten times more challenging and stops me from enjoying it in 10 to 15 minutes.
Yes. Identical here. Even without playing alone, you're by yourself until you locate your companion, which might be sufficient time for another death and a restart.
the only friend i played with a couple of times discovered a server where you could choose a general zone to respawn, but it was always frustrating after navigating through a city filled with three zombies pursuing one of you, especially when you lacked weapons or medicine.
True for me. I used to enjoy watching Dayz. A few years ago, I finally got it with my friend—we obtained the standalone version, not an Arma 2 mod. We couldn't locate each other due to missing maps at the beginning, then the presence of annoying zombies, plus issues with dehydration and hunger. The lack of color also bothered me, making certain elements harder to see.
The DayZ Standalone has consistently been seen as a joke relative to the Mod, and this hasn’t changed. It misses the essential elements of the Mod and feels even more sluggish and unresponsive. Emphasis on gimmicks rather than genuine features has left it as a disjointed version of the game. I’m uncertain about the current player numbers for the Mod, but if you manage to locate a server with some regular players, it would be better than the Standalone.
Yes it's had a big update, they call it 1.0, but that's seriously optimistic due to several reason. Definitely performs better than .62 and older. But a lot of content is missing (mainly weapon variety and some mechanics) I play solo, but run into a lot of people. Sometimes it goes good, sometimes it goes poorly. Definitely worth a go, I recommend using the DayZ SA launcher from dayzsalauncher.com as it automatically downloads mods for the specific server you're joining. A couple have added winter into the mix, and a multitude in f other mods, some subtle some to make it less about surviving. If you already own it why not, I honestly wouldn't recommend buying it in it's current state though.
