Does 8GB of memory appear limited compared to what you expect?
I recently returned one of my two 8GB RAM modules to GSkill. I expect a working unit within a week, but I wasn’t prepared for such rapid memory consumption. My typical usage includes Firefox with around ten tabs, Discord, Steam, and Spotify open. Task Manager shows me consistently using over 80-90% of my RAM, and I often have to shut down browsers when things get heavy. Is this a normal situation now? Could relying on 8GB eventually lead to trouble?
Having ten browser windows open is quite high, it can consume a lot of RAM even on Firefox. That's normal. Most people don't keep ten tabs running at once, so eight gigabytes should be sufficient for work. My laptop with eight gigabytes works perfectly for office tasks.
It seems you're acknowledging a point. I understood browsers could use a lot of memory, but I wasn't aware of just how much they needed.
Task Manager in Firefox uses limited memory, which explains the low usage. Other applications like Skype consume more space even when closed because they retain memory references.
