Do your USB devices experience unpredictable problems under varying conditions?
Hi everyone,
I've been facing a quite particular problem with my setup for a long time, focusing mainly on my USB peripherals.
The configuration includes: 1 microphone, 1 keyboard, and 1 mouse connected via a powered USB hub that is linked to my PC.
The main problem is that the devices frequently freeze for a few seconds before resuming.
Example 1: When moving the mouse, the cursor pauses briefly then restarts normally.
Example 2: Typing becomes stuck on one key, causing it to repeat the same key continuously as if I were holding it down.
Notably, certain actions exacerbate the issue. After a fresh start, it occurs once or twice every hour (rough estimate).
Using Discord makes it worse—it happens more often, typically every other second during calls, when sharing screens, or when the select screen is active.
It becomes particularly severe when the Discord share window is open, leading to freezing every second and sometimes even the entire PC shutting down.

What I know:
The issue doesn’t appear when all three USB devices are connected without a hub.
The hub functions correctly on other PCs with the same devices.
Swapping the USB devices or changing drivers doesn’t resolve it.
Removing the video card driver helps, though it’s not a satisfactory fix.
Using the same video card in another PC with the same hub and setup works fine.
The problem began after purchasing a new motherboard and CPU.
I’ve tried several solutions:
- Reinstalling Windows
- Reinstalling or removing video card drivers
- Updating BIOS
- Swapping USB devices or hub
- Disabling certain BIOS c-states
- Limiting PCIe interface in BIOS to 3.0 from 4.0
- Changing OS version
My current specs:
OS: Windows 11 22H2
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
Memory: ASUS, TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS
BIOS: 3405
GPU: MSI RTX 3060 Ti VENTUS 2X OCV1 LHR
Driver: 551.23
At this point, I’m completely confused, and the only viable solution I see is replacing the motherboard with a different one.
Thank you all in advance for your assistance.
PSU: Provide details about the device, including make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used), and disk drive specifications along with capacity and usage level.
Check using Task Manager, Resource Monitor, and Process Explorer (Microsoft, free) to observe system behavior. Use each tool individually but only one at a time. Position the view so you can monitor activity closely. Allow the system to settle for a few minutes before continuing normal tasks while keeping the window open. The goal is to identify changes during freezing events—such as processes starting or stopping. It may indicate background activities consuming resources, updates, backups, or connectivity attempts. Observe carefully and record your findings. Use all three tools. Process Explorer link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint...s-explorer
FSP hydro M PRO 700W, brand new at the time of purchase, performed exactly as expected.
Drive setup: ssd1: Samsung ~250 Gb, ssd2: Kingston ~480 Gb, hdd: budget model 1 Tb. Each storage device retains at least 30% free space.
Initially, I checked Task Manager and Resource Monitor, but found no significant resource consumption. During mouse or keyboard freezes, performance remained stable—no lag or crashes.
I also tried Process Explorer, yet couldn't locate any entries that activate during freezing events.

No unusual spikes in GPU, CPU, or memory usage were observed.
I realized that adjusting the number of columns might help, but wasn't certain what to focus on.
Notably, after a restart, one issue (mouse/keyboard) became more frequent, suggesting possible bandwidth limitations for all devices. This isn’t unusual since this USB hub with three devices works fine on other PCs.
If it were a USB port problem, it wouldn’t explain the Discord screen sharing connection.
My conclusion leans toward compatibility issues between my motherboard and video card, causing the card to struggle with UI tasks.
It’s possible overlays from other apps could exacerbate the problem, though I couldn’t identify a specific one.
I plan to perform a fresh Windows installation on an empty drive and keep detailed notes.
I’ll also review the BIOS settings.
Appreciate your assistance.
