I just bought my first PC but ended up spending everything on components and missing the operating system. I understand you can get a demo version for free, which restricts some features, but I’m curious if you could obtain a full copy for free since you already have a Windows 10 laptop. If this is feasible, could you share how to do it or give me some guidance? Thanks, Kit.

Typically, the software on the laptop uses an original manufacturer key. It’s likely the activation will fail because the copy isn’t authentic.

That permission applies to the computer. Simply set it up and turn it on when you have the funds.

It's an OEM key linked to that specific device.

No way, you don't have any rights here. A Windows license works only for one machine and can't be passed around unless it's marked otherwise (like retail versions). A laptop edition isn't transferable either, so you're out of luck. Just pay the $30 on kinguin and stop trying to make excuses for your piracy.

They mentioned it before, but if needed, you can't apply an OEM key from your laptop to run that Windows version elsewhere.

He never mentioned intending to pirate Windows 10, so don’t feel the need to act like you’re being rude—just asking a straightforward question.

It seems we misunderstood his message. It felt like he was hoping to claim something without paying, believing a Windows laptop gives him a universal license. If you want alternatives to buying software illegally, let me know and I can share some options. If this was just a straightforward question, it shows you're not overly negative or cynical.

Sure, I'm here to help. What are you hoping to achieve with that money?

Purchase an OEM key from platforms such as Kinguin or Softwarelicense4u. These sites are trustworthy, though they won’t provide Microsoft support if issues arise—you’d be the authorized OEM handling fixes. Cost typically ranges from $20 to $25.
