Hi all,
i'm a bit puzzled about psu's.
this is the pc i'm working with:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07BDTT...=UTF8&th=1
i'm planning to upgrade the z370 atx motherboard to an msi meg z690 ace eatx. so then i need to upgrade the i7-8700k processor. i'm going with an i7-12700k for that. i'm wondering, after these two upgrades, do i also need to upgrade the 500 watt psu that came with it?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Power supply: 500 watts power supply
As mentioned in the specs list for the prebuilt, it's quite unclear. If you have the PSU on hand, remove the side panel and take a photo of the labeled sides to assist in identifying the unit.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'm sending this from that PC, so I'll return with a picture in an hour or so, hehe

I retrieved it sufficiently to observe the model number, sl-8500btx. Then I located a photo associated with it.

How old is it? If you have 80 euros to spend on a good 650-watt unit, you can get one.

Regarding its condition, it appears fine. Since it was made in 2018 and has a 480W rating, it should perform adequately even when under stress. As long as you don’t plan to connect an external GPU, this power supply should manage it well!

This PSU is completely unsuitable. It has group regulation but very poor quality, weak voltage control, and two fake 12v rails. It lacks important safety features. The combined power draw of the two 12v rails is around 370w, suggesting it's only a 370w unit.
