I bought an RTX5090 and have decided to upgrade my pc instead of building a new one.
This is my system now:
Corsair Airflow 4000D
Rosewill 750w Gold psu
MSI z490-a pro
Intel i9-10850K 3.6ghz
CoolMaster Hyper 212 cpu fan
32gb ram 2x16 (3200 MHz)
RTX3060
I want to do 3 upgrades, the video card, the psu and the memory. What I have in mind for the memory probably won't work. If not
I'll have to settle for 64gb right now.
Upgraded system:
Corsair Airflow 4000D
*NZXT - C 1200W ATX 3.1 80 Plus Gold
MSI z490-a pro
Intel i9-10850K 3.6ghz
CoolMaster Hyper 212 cpu fan
*96gb ram 2x16 (3200 MHz) 2X32(3200) Problem(?) is they are 2 diff companies.
2x16 are CORSAIR - VENGEANCE LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16 UDIMM Desktop Memory
2 x 32 are Kingston - FURY Impact 64GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL20 SODIMM Desktop Memory (Kit of 2)
*RTX5090 ( 11.97in x 4.86in x 2.36in)
I know this won't be the fastest kid on the block, but my main goal is training AI and not an enormous amount of money spent on day 1. The biggest cost was of course the 5090. I can get by for under $600 for the other two upgrades, and less if I only upgrade to 64gb of ram.
Obtain an improved cooler. The 212 line was decent, just marginally superior to the standard model and affordable. It doesn't stand out much. This might not function properly. RAM should be purchased in a bundle, not individually.
CORSAIR - VENGEANCE LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16 UDIMM Desktop Memory paired with
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop
From the same manufacturer, identical specifications. Would this combination function? I'm aiming to maintain affordability. If it fails, I might opt for just the 2x32 instead of the 2x16.
Only things that don't appear in a package or uniform way are likely to fail.
I don't perform any overclocking and my BIOS is configured to power down if the CPU reaches 85°C. Over the past four years, it hasn't shut down at all because the CPU consistently hit that temperature. All rendering tasks are handled by the GPU. I'll need to monitor after installing the 5090 and assess the additional heat it generates in the case.
Optional addition:
Noctua NH-U12A, Premium CPU Cooler with High-Performance Quiet NF-A12x25 PWM Fans (120mm, Brown)
Everything is set - I’m counting on it working!
NZXT C 1200W ATX 3.1 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular Power Supply - Black
RS120 120mm PWM Fans - Triple Pack × 2
Noctua NH-U12A, Premium CPU Cooler with High-Performance Quiet NF-A12x25 PWM Fans (120mm, Brown)
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model CMK64GX4M2E3200C16
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Graphic Card 32GB GDDR7 FE
If it doesn’t, other components can be swapped into a new setup.
