Do you need a Question PoE switch that works in very hot or cold weather?
Hey everyone! I want to install some security cameras on my second-floor house. In my attic, there are two network cables running to a 24-port Ubiquiti PoE switch. One cable is already connected to a WAP, but the other one isn't working right now. Since getting four PoE cables back down into the basement where all my gear is would be really painful or impossible anyway, I want to mount a 4-port PoE switch in the attic so it powers the cameras, while the data travels along those existing lines. My problem is that this attic gets cold during winter months, but not freezing. However, on hot summer days, the temperature could easily go over 130F up there. I need to recommend a 5-port PoE switch that can handle these temperatures, preferably from Ubiquiti or any other brand works fine. Another option would be switching to a standard 5-port switch with four PoE injectors. This is not good for me because it's expensive and I might still face those temperature issues. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I'd rather just wire everything up and find out that half the cameras stop working during the summer heat.
The USW-Flex is the device I use in my Texas attic. I run it with a 60W POE injector on the uplink so the power supply stays in the climate-controlled area. From https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-n...s/usw-flex you will need to turn on notifications to know when stock is available to buy... Operating Temperature 46W PoE Output 25W PoE Output -40 to 55° C (-40 to 131° F) -40 to 65° C (-40 to 149° F)
I'm looking at the microtik site to see if they have something that works. This is just an example though, and be careful here because it's a passive POE switch. I think you need 802.3af or at for this one since a lot of their stuff can handle outside weather. This switch goes from -20C to +70C which is weird because usually things don't like cold more than heat, and many won't run below zero. Check out the link: https://mikrotik.com/product/RB260GSP
The cameras need 802.3af, and they have their own power supply. It looks like this could work well: https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-n...s/usw-flex
Ubiquiti sells okay things, but it seems like they run into trouble getting supplies. Often items sit unsold in stock on their website and they don't connect well when you buy from other places. That means if you go somewhere else, prices are usually higher.
