The instructions are confusing. Most mods rely on a custom loader, so you should check your game launcher for mod support before deciding.

I handle CP2077 mods with Vortex, it works well and is fast.

I also rely on vortex, but turning on mods in the game launcher causes issues.

figures... I'm not relying on vortex, but I think turning it on would achieve the same result for those that are installed manually.

Choose Vortex for simplicity. While I tried manual installation before, removing and updating mods is frustrating. It also handles redmods automatically, eliminating the need for the CDPR launcher. You can import non-Nexus mods too. I've installed many mods for CP2077 without needing a custom loader. Are you referring to dependencies like Cyber Engine Tweaks? They install just like regular mods.

they seem like custom loaders, though archivexl, tweakxl, red4ext are probably the closest options. Red4ext might be the official loader for the project, which I don’t know why no one is using yet. Vortex appears to be the best choice, but my last attempt was chaotic and didn’t improve much compared to manual installation (though I still think it’s a good idea).

They install using the standard method—just drag and drop. These are modding frameworks and essential dependencies for many extensions, not unique loaders. Still, I highly suggest using Vortex. Removing or updating mods without it forces you to manually locate and remove files, and any overwritten content can't be recovered. Vortex handles this effortlessly with a single click via the "deactivate" option.

Ok, I'm gonna disagree with everything said here cause the following is a typical note from mod creators: Before asking for help, remove all previous installations of CET and manually install the most recent version. Vortex screws up, a lot. It ain't really difficult manually installing and uninstalling mods and load order has never been an issue with CP2077. BUUUUT ppl love installing all kinds of crap on their PCs which is why there are so many ppl writing: my PC is slow, it stutters, it crashes alot (and they *only* got 5 million icons in system tray...), do what you want, my 20ish mods work just fine manually installed

they're loaders... without them a lot of mods don't work, you can call them "framework" same thing really... btw there are also mods that don't need a loader... typically you only need a loader when there's an anti cheat or similar stuff, but i think this is more to bypass project reds own mod loader, ironically. as for vortex as said I'd generally agree, but that wasn't really the question, plus as said to me its messy, im rather in control of my stuff and as said last time i tried it didn't work well and then you have a real issue at hand cause you don't know what it did. in a game like this (lots of mods and lots of "dependencies") what i usually do is make backups, of stable states, so i can always go back if something went wrong (not a surefire way, but usually works well and if you have several backups some of them surely will work) haha, true...! yeah i like to keep it simple, and i don't really feel i need to install many mods for this game, i think im current at like 600mb... i think lots of people who mod mainstream games have their knowledge from Skyrim which is really awful to mod and you kinda *have* to use vortex, but most games aren't like that... typically swap or add some files and you done. sometimes you can even alter mods easily... but yeah mods for CP are pretty involved, also feels like many do basically the same thing (and may or may not be incompatible with each other lol...) right now im having issues with AMM, i think its a bit buggy (options disappear, scrolling stops working, etc...)
