I'll start by mentioning that it doesn't occur in every match. I'm currently playing Palworld. My FPS remains consistently stable at around 60 FPS. I experience occasional drops and frame rate fluctuations, which seem linked to how quickly data is transferred from the disk. I'm using a Patriot 1TB Sata SSD, Windows 11 (fully updated, a brand new installation two days ago), 32GB of RAM at 2666MHz, an RTX 2070 graphics card, and an 850W power supply. The GPU usage stays between 80-90% during gameplay, while the CPU usage is around 40-45%. Temperatures are roughly 65-67°C for the GPU and 82-85°C for the CPU.
I'm aware the CPU can get quite warm, but I recently applied a new thermal paste and it's still running hot. There isn't another cooler available, but I suspect the issue isn't throttling—it's possible it reached 100°C before the new paste improved performance, as I've seen similar cases before. This problem occurs even when the system is idle. It randomly spikes, causing FPS to drop from a locked 60 to the low 40s and then rebound quickly. It's quite disruptive. I'm not sure if this happens in other games; I've only played Palworld, FO76, and Halo: Infinite. The issue seems to be specific to Halo. It might just be a game engine quirk, but if I can prevent it, that would be ideal. Anyone has any suggestions on what might be causing this?
How much space is available on the SSD? Just one partition is present.
