I'm on my third attempt at this game, trying various approaches each time and finding fresh methods to quickly build a large fleet for galactic control. It's still as enjoyable as it was on the first try!
That is a name that I have not heard in a long time... Years ago I played Endless Sky. I loved the worlds and ships and I had a great time taking on missions and planning out optimal routes to complete them for maximum profit. I always thought I would get around to making a let's play for it, but sadly it never happened. I'm glad to see people are still enjoying it!
A shame there's not more interest in this game. I got a Centipede with 2x Diamondum shield regenerators, only anti-missile defenses, some fast engines, and fill it up with crew and go cap disabled Unfettered Hai ships when they fight. I've got 5x Shield Beetles and 1 Aphid from this so far! Once I get about a dozen I'll go back to moving freight to build a money base, strip the ships of ammo weapons and fill them with anti-missile and ion cannons, beef up the shields more, and then go hunt pirates for bounty down by the Free Worlds area.
The ONLY way I've ever gotten ahead was with the StarBarge running freight missions and then paying the loan back early, kept 100K in the bank and anything more I paid to the loan. I stripped the StarBarge of all weapons, put a faster turning engine in it and at least one fuel tank, dumped the battery, and made it go as fast as I could between systems. Pirates can't kill what they can't catch! You can have the loan paid off super fast that way, buy a 2nd barge, get to Hai space, run freight in safety without any shield regen and maxed cargo. If you need to get a fleet of ships through space there's a cheat of sorts. Depart the planet, have the ships hold (H), you jump off and get a couple systems away then have them gather (G) as you're jumping they'll follow a few jumps behind in safety.
