How is the RX 7900 XT performing? It seems like a strong GPU, similar to how the Radeon HD 7970 GHz was back in the past; there were even versions with 6 GB VRAM. I built a PC with a friend (U7 265K, 64 GB RAM, Sapphire RX 7800 XT). He's really satisfied with the U7 265K and the 7800 XT, and he thinks the whole setup works well. He's an animator.
It's been great, I've used it for a couple of years now and it's managed everything I've tried. I bought it as an open box deal on Newegg for $899 at that time, so there were no issues there. Mostly I play games with it, but I've also done some AI up conversions and virtualization testing since I'm unsure if I want to keep Windows as my main operating system long-term. Everything seems to be working well so far.
The uplift in gaming as mentioned should be significant. Can you list what memory you are using as this can be important to getting the most out of the cpu.
It might also be worth listing the motherboard and cpu cooler as well
Good news regarding memory, a 32gb and 3200 speed remains a solid choice.
A 5950x is a strong CPU, though it leans more toward production use than pure gaming. The high thread count can still provide decent performance in suitable applications, and you may notice a slight improvement in games, although most titles probably won’t fully utilize all the cores.
If you’re sticking with AM4 and your motherboard, I’d still recommend the 5700x3d for gaming, as the gains would be much more apparent and noticeable.
I'm not planning to do it right now because you hinted at wanting to switch to an AM5 board later, which offers better performance for processors like the Ryzen 5 7600X and 7800X3D. This upgrade would provide more longevity, particularly for gaming.
This option is also feasible based on your current budget. A 7600x / 9600x setup offers performance comparable to a 5700x3d, though it will need a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM. You might also consider a different cooler depending on your existing Noctua model, although it should still be adequate. This choice also opens up possibilities for future upgrades.
