Hey everyone, I am trying to connect to a Chrome extension named .torrent Transmission Web Interface but something is wrong with my port 9091. Even after doing these steps, the port stays closed. The things I did were this: 1. Forwarded the port so connections can come through. 2. Added an inbound rule in the firewall to let traffic on that port pass. The error message looks like this: [Here is the type of error]. Here are the settings for the extension. I really need help with this

Port forwarding helps you reach something hidden behind a firewalls wall. If you really want to talk to Transmission's web page from outside your local network, you can't just use localhost (that only works right here in your machine). You'd need to change it to the address of your router's internet connection instead. If you're talking inside your own computer without leaving its area, there is no external firewall stopping traffic, so you don't need any special forwarding rules. Just make sure your operating system firewall isn't blocking it and that the app is actually running on that port.

You are correct because I am trying to talk to it from inside the host machine. I set up an inbound rule on my computer's firewall so this port would open, but it is still not working. Here is what the netsh command showed me as well: You can see in port 9091 there is a SYN_SENT flag. This means that something is trying to make a connection right now, but the handshake hasn't finished yet (so the connection times out).

You can spot that the firewall lets in connections, but it shows signs of trying to start up some TCP sessions (those are flagged SYN packets). We don't know yet what's actually running there on that port. Run a command called netstat -a to check if something is listening there.

That's what the list shows when you run this command.

It looks like no one else has heard anything, so I should look at the network settings to make sure that connection is turned on and using the right channel.

Thank you for all your help! I really appreciate how you research things like this. P.S. Here are the docs I found: Port 9091 (tcp/udp), what it does, where it's used, and any security risks. www.speedguide.net

I didn't know if the problem was actually fixed or not. If it worked fine, I'm happy to help. But if it's still broken, check the "preferences" in Transmission, then look for "remote." You'll find a way to turn on remote access. After restarting Transmission, that should make it listen on the correct port.

I tried doing it again by installing the app and checking the remote settings, but the problem is still there.

Your internet connection is working fine, but your app isn't showing up because transmission's built-in web page isn't there yet. When you set it up, you have to tell it where to find that page, or else it won't work properly. Just delete the old version and try setting it up again, make sure to check the box for "Web UI," and then go ahead. PS: That's pretty much how they made their settings so we forget something is missing just by leaving a blank spot there.
