I've been assembling a new PC. The air cooler and thermal paste are installed correctly, but the system isn't turning on yet. It seems the thermal paste might still be effective until the build is nearly complete. Should I wait a month or two before reseating the cooler and applying paste closer to startup?

It will be okay. It won't start to work properly until it's warmed up by the CPU.
