Do i need new psu?
Do you need to purchase a new power supply, since it lacks GPU connectors? The graphics card you wish to install is a GTX 1080. Here are the specifications formatted as requested:
CPU: Intel i5-10400f
CPU cooler: Intel Stock cooler
Motherboard: ASRock H510M-HVS R2.0
Ram: 8GB RAM
Storage: 120GB SSD, 1TB HDD
GPU: NVIDIA GT 1030
PSU: 550w (estimated)
Chassis: mATX
OS: Windows 11
Monitor: ThinkVision S24-e20
Please include the age of the PSU along with its make and model. Also, let me know the current BIOS version for your motherboard.
the make and model of the psu
if it lacks dedicated gpu cables, it’s probably not a genuine 550w unit—likely around 300w. i’d recommend replacing it.
could you tell me your location in the us?
I'm from Romania, but these things here are garbage. My mom bought it for me without knowing, and she paid about 800 dollars.
There are chances the 550w without Pcie connectors might not actually deliver 550w, and it’s likely of low quality. But if the power supply lacks the required Pcie connector, it should be replaced completely, no exceptions.
Fortunately, the GTX 1080 isn’t as power-hungry as many contemporary cards, and your overall system doesn’t consume excessive power either.
Please let me know if you find other better options to explore.
