Do I have replacement parts for my old Dynabook laptop?
Do I have replacement parts for my old Dynabook laptop?
Hi everyone! I hit a wall with the recovery data on my Portege X30. I recently bought a new mainboard for my device, and it's an X30-F model (8th gen i5). The new board is actually from a X30-G model (10th gen i5). My laptop works fine with this replacement on top of the Win10 that came from the old 8th-gen unit. Besides a tiny CPU upgrade, there are almost no differences between those boards.
I still wanted to do a total wipe and fresh install, but I ran into trouble because the recovery partition for the X30-F wasn't meant for the new X30-G board. A clean Win10 setup has a downside: it misses all the original dynabook apps that come with it, and you can't easily patch them in (I didn't find any standalone downloads, only drivers). So I checked the dynabook support pages for recovery media specific to the 10th-gen serial number. It says the mainboard is meant for "Americas" support, though, so they don't ship the recovery files to Europe (I live in Germany). Are you guys aware of another way to get an ISO file? Maybe some other site or server I didn't find before? I really want to be able to recover this thing properly if ever needed. The dynabook unit details look up gave me these software notes: Preinstalled Software: GX5C00005110 SW Images: TIS00331Z0E Thanks in advance!
You need to call Microsoft and tell them about the new motherboard you have and show them your login info so they can confirm it's you. Unless you can sign into your email account where the Windows license is connected, that won't work. The BIOS holds the license key for the operating system, which is why a swap stops activation (at least according to my research). A fresh Win10 install means you lose most of the software that came with it, including some from Dynabook, and I couldn't find any official downloads for those apps, only drivers are available. You should manually reinstall all necessary drivers on your laptop as an administrator, which means right-clicking the installer and choosing Run as Administrator.
Hey Lutfij, thanks for your message. But I think you got my point wrong. The Windows 10 activation works fine without any issues; it's actually stored in the computer's BIOS just like we talked about before. My real problem is that some of my Win10 apps (like Dynabook Settings) can't work anymore because they aren't available for free download from the Microsoft Store. It looks like these apps need to come preinstalled with Windows for them to show up in the store as part of the system. So basically, drivers and activation aren't the issue here; it's just that Dynabook Settings isn't available on the store anymore.
