Display going dark for about five seconds during alt-tab or window key presses in games
I recently got a new Acer XV322QK KV monitor featuring 4k, HDR and 144hz capabilities. The first problem I faced was that during intense gaming sessions, the screen would briefly go black while G-sync was active. I resolved it by disabling G-sync, which wasn’t too bad but still puzzling since the Nvidia control panel confirmed G-sync worked on my setup. Another issue remains unresolved: whenever I’m in a demanding game like any UE5 title, pressing alt-tab or using the Windows key causes a 5-second blackout before switching tabs or switching to another window. Initially I suspected it might be related to bandwidth limits because the monitor only supports HDMI 2.0, which struggles with HDR+4k+144hz without compression. Even when HDR is off or I set the game to a lower fullscreen resolution like 1080p, the same delay occurs. I also tried enabling integer scaling in the Nvidia control panel, but it didn’t help. This behavior wasn’t present on my previous monitor when playing at a reduced fullscreen setting. The only exception is when using borderless-fullscreen mode, which forces the display to 4k and avoids the issue. I haven’t found a clear solution yet and have tried switching to DP instead of HDMI for better bandwidth, along with updating the drivers, but nothing worked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
