Display freezes on PC, startup issues also occur.
Hi everyone, today everything seemed normal when I restarted my PC. I played some games and then suddenly it shut down. I checked the power supply in the house—it was working. When I tried to use my mouse, keyboard, and USB mic, none received any power. I cleaned the system thinking dust might be causing overheating, but the issue keeps happening. I’m looking for possible causes and would appreciate any advice. Updated April 15, 2024 by Ben02948563
It appears the device shuts down completely rather than simply powering off. Once it stops functioning, it remains off unless it restarts automatically. This behavior could indicate a power supply or hardware problem. Could you share your full system details? Also, does it become unresponsive in BIOS or only in Windows?
Hi, it first stopped working while I was playing the game. After some fans stopped spinning it, it started up again. Once I connected it to Windows, it told me it wasn’t booting properly and needed a restart. After that restart, it launched Windows and then suddenly froze or repeated shutting down. I’m not entirely sure about all my details since it was a gift from my parents. The specs I remember are: GPU 3060, CPU i7 13700k, power supply 850W bronze ASUS board, RAM DDR5 32GB (not branded), and it came with my dad’s work. I didn’t mention that it freezes when trying to access BIOS, but it keeps shutting off and restarting randomly inside BIOS.
If it's handling this in bios too, software is unlikely to be the cause. It’s probably one of three common problems: power supply, RAM, or motherboard. To diagnose and identify the issue, you’d need to test parts that are new or already working in the system. If you have experience with hardware troubleshooting and the required components nearby, I can suggest what to check next. Otherwise, if you can’t easily obtain the needed parts, it’s best to bring it to a repair shop or professional.
We’ll check one stick of RAM individually to determine if there’s a fault. If it’s confirmed faulty, we’ll move on to testing the power supply. Do you have any procedures for checking the power supply?
Edit - The RAM isn’t the issue, but it has failed three times during the BIOS ‘mem test’, with the fourth attempt failing completely.

The best way to verify the power supply is by using a PSU tester available on Amazon or swapping it with another unit to check for issues. A simple home test with a paperclip can confirm if the fan starts and the device powers on, but you should also ensure it delivers the correct power to each connector.
You might reinitialize the system, swap parts out and reattach them properly, (or attempt it without the GPU, using the IGPU since it’s possible)
