Display black screen during GPU reaching maximum speed
over the past months my display suddenly turns black during gameplay, it mostly occurs in certain titles like "The Cycle." even when set to medium, fans spin up to full speed and the screen goes dark. my sister used a GTX 3070 with high settings, but it didn’t happen, so the issue seems GPU-related. it’s crucial to note that the system remains functional—games load, music plays, Discord works—and I tried pressing "ctrl+win+shift+b" during the event, but it didn’t help. i think the problem might be linked to overheating, as per HWMONITOR data: temperatures climb before the GPU shuts down, reaching 70-75°C in hotspots and memory, then the screen cuts out and the backlight becomes extremely hot. i attempted lowering the room temperature to around 16°C, but it only delays the outcome. what should I do? should I replace the thermal paste on the GPU? could that resolve it? is there a definitive way to confirm it’s a temperature issue? my specs are: windows 11 pro (also heppend on windows 10), amd ryzen 5900 32gb ram, pny xlr8 3080 epic x (10gb version).
Heat is an option too, along with power. How recent is your PSU and does it provide sufficient capacity for that GPU? A few current games allow the GPU to operate at higher temperatures, which means more power consumption. Are all of your other titles built on UE4? Have you installed the newest drivers for your graphics card?
I have an antec 850w 80plus gold model. From a wattage perspective it seems fine, though it's a modular build which might be the reason. I just cleaned it today and it didn't help with Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. It can handle high settings sometimes for a few minutes or up to 20 minutes, but it always crashes after a while. Even at low settings or in the lobby it will freeze eventually.
