I just put in my Corsair cx psu and noticed a lot of coil whine. I'm wondering if it's worth returning now, especially since I might have missed out on a better, more energy-efficient and higher-quality PSU. With energy prices so high in the UK right now, should I have considered gold or platinum? Also, I don't plan to upgrade much longer except maybe adding another NVMe drive.

Hey there,
You're right, opting for something more robust would be wise. Corsair RM/RMx/RMi/TXM models are all solid Gold units built with high-quality components. They usually include a 7-10 year warranty.
The coilwhine often originates from the PSU, Mobo, or GPU. If the case is new, send it back and request the TXM.

Thanks for the reply, it was really helpful. Do you think a 750W would be a good choice just to be sure? I've seen those and they look great, but I noticed a promising deal on a Thermaltake toughpower gold PSU with a 10-year warranty. What do you think about their PSUs? I'll send it back right away before Amazon decides to go on strike here.

No probs, you're most welcome.
750w isn't a bad idea specially if the prices are close. Give some room to grow your system with more power hungry parts down the line.
The Thermaltake Toughpower Gold is another very decent PSU. Personally, as per my sig (I like Corsair). But it's a good one nonetheless.

I thought that too, but I had to stick to my budget on that PSU—it was a mistake. I went with the Thermaltake 850W because the 750W model didn’t come with an 8pin plus 4pin CPU cable, and this one seems to include it. It only cost £10 more, which was a good deal overall. Thanks again!
