Discussion about the Riser Cable issue Question about its purpose and usage
Hey there, Phil. It’s that time again when trying to solve a tricky setup issue. I’ve got a new motherboard and want to add a USB 3 expansion card so I can replace my old USB 2.0 hub. The problem is, the PCIe 1x slot is under the graphics card, while the only other PCIe x16 slot is at the bottom. I’m thinking of using the single vertical slot for the USB card and running a PCIe 1x riser into the x16 slot. This should keep things cool and work well without extra hardware. I’m wondering if it will stay securely in place without any locks—just relying on tension to hold it steady. I’ve never used something like this before, and I haven’t found much info on it, so I’m a bit unsure but curious. Thanks for your help!
Duct tape... Yet honestly, it might be a good idea, give it a try to see if it’s the best choice for you.
Consider testing it with a brace first, rather than immediately securing it.
