Hello everyone, I'm at a bit of a crossroads here. I just got a GPU from Amazon with two 8-pin power connectors. My PSU supports 6+2 and 6 pins, so I’m missing two more from my PSU to connect the GPU. My power consumption is around 80 watts max, which fits within a 500-watt PSU.
I’m wondering if using just the 8 and 6 pins from my PSU will work for the GPU. Also, I saw that some people suggest using a power adapter with an 8-pin connector that fits into the PSU’s 6-pin output. Which option is better or worse? What should I do?
Additionally, since my PC is pre-built (I know, it’s not ideal), there are some unnecessary add-ons that aren’t really useful. For example, my PSU is enclosed in metal, making it hard to see if there are more pins available unless I remove the case.
Please share your advice based on what I’ve tried so far. I really don’t want my new setup to overheat and cause problems—my goal is to keep things stable, not risk a disaster like blowing up my MOBA and CPU. If you have any experience, let me know! Thanks in advance.
It's interesting that the 3060ti comes with two connectors; my Asus dual 3060TI OC lhr black only has one 8-pin port. The main distinction between 6-pin and 8-pin connectors is the presence of two ground pins. You should be able to connect both an 8-pin and a 6-pin adapter directly to the GPU, provided everything is securely seated. Wishing you a great day!
