Yes, there are P2P servers available in ARK. Since you and your friend are playing together, you can use a private server without needing a rental or joining public ones.

I haven’t played it myself, but there’s a specific Ark Survival Evolved server listed in Steam.

You must set up a port forward in order for it to function. The ISP no longer allows this.

It's quite likely. Hosting a server on your own PC usually works, but it can be tricky. If your friend isn't able to host, consider setting up a virtual LAN. Tools such as Hamachi, Tungle, or EvolveHQ could help. I haven't used any of these in a while and I'm unsure about their current reliability.

Absolutely, I remember that. It's been a while since I last used Hamachi, and I'm not sure how well it's holding up after so long. Thanks!

You reside in areas where your internet service provider restricts port forwarding. In fact, many current countries require you to manage your firewall settings and forward ports yourself. Most major ISPs attempting to block ports through hardware or networks faced substantial penalties.
