Imagine you're switching to a newer computer and want everything from your old setup—photos, music, games, photoshop, lightroom files—to transfer completely. You're thinking about backing everything up to an external drive before moving. From a quick summary: yes, backing up your Windows installation should preserve all data, including your important files on the HDD. Once you switch to Windows 7 and then upgrade to Windows 10, those files should remain intact on your new system. Just make sure the backup is done correctly and you have a reliable transfer method.

I've restored using W7 backup and restore multiple times without any issues... Just be sure to create a system image! Good luck.

Create a full disk copy from the present drive. External storage must match the size. You can also generate a restore point using the current session, but it only saves configuration settings.
