You're facing a potential compatibility issue since your MacBook isn't officially supported by Windows 10. Consider checking if there are any unofficial updates or workarounds available for running Windows 8 on a MacBook, or explore alternative operating systems that better suit your device. If upgrading isn't feasible, you might need to look into virtualization options or use a different machine.

The key remains consistent. The key for 8 functions correctly for 8. No matching key exists for an upgrade version 10. Activation is handled entirely on the server side. Upgrades create a snapshot of the hardware, storing it on the servers with your provided key. As long as you don’t alter the hardware, you stay active. If the upgrade fails, it will revert to the previous operating system. You can even roll back after the upgrade completes.

Thanks for the update. I’ll switch then. It would have been helpful if Microsoft had provided more guidance on the Win10 upgrade process. In any case, "they have an FAQ" – though it’s not very comprehensive.
