I have a temporary 3-day trial of Windows 7 since my Windows 8.1 hasn’t arrived yet, and I aimed to prepare my setup early. I’m checking if the Windows Upgrade Assistant can help me switch from the non-genuine Windows 7 to the genuine Windows 8.1, or if it won’t work because the current version isn’t authentic.
It's feasible, but a clean installation is recommended. I attempted the upgrade tool (from Windows 7 to 8.1), but my app wasn't transferred and ended up in the Windows.old directory.
I concur, perform a new setup. Over the last month I upgraded from Windows 7 x64 Pro to Windows 8.1 x64 Pro. The most sensible approach is a clean install with the newest drivers and resetting all your apps, ensuring everything functions properly. Keep in mind, however, that certain programs might require updates to run smoothly on Windows 8.1, which could incur additional costs and some may not operate at all.
