Hello everyone, I'm trying to understand my motherboard's PCIe lanes. I have an R5 2600X with an Asus Prime B450 plus and a RTX 3070. Recently, I got a new NVMe SSD and want to move data from the old one to the new one. I plan to use a PCIe M.2 adapter card and put it in my second PCIe 2.0 x16 slot. My main concern is that I don't want my PCIe 3.0 x16 lane downgraded to x8, and the PCIe 2.0 lane should stay at x8. I checked the manual, but I'm a bit confused about the details. Could someone clarify:
1. Does the second PCIe x16 slot only support x16 speeds, or could it run faster if I use a different adapter card?
2. If the second PCIe gets x8 mode, would that affect how the lanes are allocated from the CPU?

The lower slot supports only PCIe 2.0 at x4 bandwidth. Additional lanes aren't possible and performance limits are fixed. 2. The device operates exclusively via the chipset; connecting it to the CPU isn't an option, nor can extra lanes be provided from the CPU.
