I'm preparing a component list on pcpartpicker.com that features the Intel Core i7-6800k. After reviewing the options, I plan to overclock the CPU to 4GHZ if possible. I was considering using Phanteks for cooling due to their look, airflow, and most importantly, quiet operation. However, after checking forums, reviews, and FAQs recently, I found this link: https://hardforum.com/threads/air-cooler...z.1901416/. The discussion suggests it's technically feasible to use a high-end air cooler for an overclocked 6800k, though you might not achieve the best temperatures or headroom compared to a liquid cooler. I'm unsure whether to choose the Phanteks, a matching air cooler, or an all-in-one liquid solution. The main drawback of liquid cooling is finding quiet models—like the noisy NZXT Kraken—which makes me reconsider my initial choice. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The Cryorig R1, Noctua NH-D15, and Phanteks TC14PE perform similarly, matching most AIO units well. With adequate airflow in your case, they can compete with a Corsair H100i. Even the Kraken X61 only slightly outperforms them.

- The best upgrade for CPU coolers would be switching to a liquid cooler, though finding one under 30dB would be ideal.
Thanks for your help!

The Cryorig R1, Noctua NH-D15, and Phanteks TC14PE perform similarly, matching most AIO units well. With adequate airflow in your case, they can compete with a Corsair H100i. Even the Kraken X61 only slightly outperforms them.

Regarding overclocking, I’m curious—would one of these air coolers handle a 6800k better than an AIO? Thanks a lot!

All three options match the performance of a 240mm AIO.
