Personally i'm disappointed. Upgradability is one of the biggest arguments against Intel. For the b350s and x370s sure maybe that's acceptable. But for those who bought b450s and x470s? That's basically a slap in the face. And their "not enough room for bios" excuses are bullshit, even some x370 motherboards have a 128mb bios chip. I hope that with enough backlash from the community, they'll seriously consider to reverse this decision.
The end of the am4 socket is precisely why I face a major issue here. By now, this looks like a clear attempt by AMD to make a quick sale. People will keep buying Ryzen CPUs because they're so powerful. For instance, I purchase a b550 or x570 motherboard with the 4000 series CPU, and when I want to upgrade, it's a total hassle—I have to replace the motherboard again since they claim AM4 support until 2020.
I completely understand your point. I own an X470 Gaming 7 with Wi-Fi, which is one of the top options available on that platform. I bought it to upgrade later to a 12 or 16-core Ryzen 4000 processor. The reason given about insufficient space in the BIOS is not valid—my system has around 128MB, and the BIOS files typically range from 13 to 16MB on my motherboard. Since the issue lies at the socket end, it’s clear that forcing upgrades isn’t practical. It would be better if manufacturers continued supporting the x670 chipset until then, then introduce a new socket with proper justification.

Update on B450 Support (May 8, 2020 ) AMD announced this week that the B450 chipset will no longer be officially compatible with yet unannounced Ryzen 4000 desktop CPUs ("ZEN 3" architecture) , although we were told from official contacts that B450 would still be on the list. Unfortunately, we were not able to find out the exact technical background of this other than maybe some limitation in the flash memory chip capacity of B450 boards. Experience from past AMD launches shows that sometimes compatibility (possibly limited) can be provided with some creative methods. We will probably only know more details as soon as ZEN 3 appears on the market. The rumors when this will happen range from October to sometime in early 2021. We don't have any samples yet. In view of AMD's new official compatibility matrix, we have to announce at this point in time that we cannot guarantee a subsequent upgrade of the Ryzen 4000-series CPU in the AM4 socket of your XMG APEX 15 . Whether there will be a successor (possibly only a new mainboard) of XMG APEX 15 with a new AMD chipset next year is not yet foreseeable - but we will of course make every effort to make notebooks with AMD processors a permanent part of our portfolio.
