Suggest a 2700x and 450p tomahawk around $315. You might opt for a 3600/3600x model offering marginally better single-core performance, which could boost FPS slightly in games, though it only has six cores. A 3600x with the same b450 would cost roughly $350.

All details are now part of the initial message.
Price is around 350-400 USD but not higher.

It’s fine to use your i7 7700 for 100hz gaming and basic video editing. If performance lags, consider reinstalling Windows or installing an SSD. For higher refresh rates like 144hz or 240hz, pair it with an R7 3700X + 3600mhz Cl16 memory. When upgrading to a 4K 60hz display, opt for an R7 2700/X + 3200mhz Cl16 memory or the 1950X if you’re in San Diego. Always get an RX 5700/XT with you when you upgrade your screen—it tends to remain the top choice. Prioritize improving your display and GPU before moving on to the CPU.

The performance isn't bad overall, but Arma 3 tends to lag when many mods are active. I'm planning to switch to stronger Ryzen CPUs because of positive reviews and a new motherboard with more upgrade options—my current board lacks that flexibility. A complete upgrade won't happen right away. However, if the GPU can boost frame rates in a modded Arma 3, I might consider it.

This upgrade doesn’t drastically alter your path with AM4. We’ve already tested three CPU versions for it, and AMD only guaranteed the socket would remain available until the end of 2020. Unless you’re an enthusiast looking to improve, you won’t notice much change on your system when switching chips.

It seems Arma 3 is still Arma 3, but performance issues are widespread. Benchmarks and forum discussions suggest Ryzen CPUs aren't working well in the game, with low frame rates. The next Ryzen generation will likely only offer a small boost—around 200-300 MHz—using 7nm technology, providing minimal improvements.

The concept came from AMD's announcement about maintaining AM4 support through 2020. Ryzen describes the CPU series in a way comparable to EPYC branding, extending beyond just AM4 sockets. They adjusted the Threadripper socket designation without altering its name to Threadripper.

Another CPU drop on AM4 is likely. They might unlock more performance with Ryzen 5000 later in 2020 or early 2021. Eventually, they’ll probably move to AM4+ or AM5 for fresh features and a completely new motherboard design.
