Hi everyone. With the Gigabyte h61m-s2-b3 board, I'm considering installing an i5-2500k processor and a 500W power supply, along with a Radeon HD 7850 graphics card. Can I push the i5-2500k beyond 4GHz?

For a CPU upgrade without changing your motherboard, you can consider Sandy and Ivy Bridge i7 models such as the 2600 or 3770. However, the 3770 might require a BIOS update to function properly.

It wouldn't be a great choice for OC, though it isn't perfect. You could still make some minor changes.

You cannot increase the clock speed beyond what's available on that motherboard. Intel restricts overclocking to the top chipsets for this platform, such as P67, Z68, or Z77. In most cases, you can only slightly adjust the Turboboost settings and might achieve an additional 1-200MHz if the BIOS supports it, but that's the limit.

There isn't a specific locking CPU that's recommended as an alternative to the i5-2500K. The choice depends on your needs and budget.
