Imagine three computers linked through a local network. PC #1 already has a DVD drive, while PCs #2 and #3 need access. You're using standard Windows sharing but find it needs constant adjustments each time a disc is inserted. You're seeking a way to make the share permanent without reconfiguring every time you load a new DVD. Additionally, you're interested in creating DVDs without switching drives frequently, and you're open to free software options.

Another method uses a SATA to USB adapter. Just move it around, no installation needed. Uploading a DVD over the network will be very slow.
