Discussing CPU temperature issues
Hello! Yesterday I was saving a pretty big game on Steam (~99 GB) – Black Ops 3. While it was downloading, I noticed my fans getting louder. At first I thought something was wrong because the only activity was the download. I looked up my system info and saw my CPU temperatures fluctuating between high 40s to 50s and low 60s. That made me worried; uploading a Steam game shouldn’t be that demanding on the processor, so I wondered if those idle temps were really increasing. When I paused the download, things settled and the temps dropped back to around 37-42°C. My main concern is whether this counts as a CPU load or if those idle readings are normal when the CPU is idle. If it’s not typical, I have some MX-4 boards that could be swapped out for testing.
Certainly some steam titles are unpacked during download. The resulting temperatures are completely safe.
Steam not only unpacks but also installs during the download. Even when your computer is idle, background processes might still run. Based on your note, you seem to understand.
It's great to hear! I'm glad you're ready once the download completes. Appreciate your patience with the temperature concerns.
