The AMD G-sku components use CPU chiplets from the prior generation, meaning the 3x00G APUs contain Zen+ cores from the 2x00 line. This setup results in them being considered incompatible on the 5x0 boards, according to AMD's specifications—not due to technical barriers.
It's really cool you can use the R9 5950X! I was expecting to upgrade my MOBO eventually too. Maybe I'll do it once I get more comfortable with what I want in a new MOBO.
Yea, the AMD Ryzen G CPU's are basically a 'previous generation' product. Zen (1) = Ryzen 1000, plus 2200G, 2400G Zen+ = Ryzen 2000 (excluding 2200G, 2400G), plus 3200G, 3400G Zen 2 = Ryzen 3000, (excluding 3200G 3400G) Zen 3 = Ryzen 5000 Although if you do include the laptop CPU's, desktop APU's and OEM products it does get a little more complicated. That is why I generally just look at the CPU support list, to know for sure what does and does not work in theory it can support that CPU, but it's not like you want a CPU of that caliber on a board like this. Without going into too much detail, CPU's use power and motherboards support power. Even though in theory an A520 motherboard can turn on with a 5950X, it's not like it can comfortable deliver the amount of power a 5950X uses. A 5600X CPU is about the most I recommend on A520 motherboards. It's not like all B550 or X570 motherboards are equal, certainly not, but a good X570 is what I would recommend for Ryzen 9 in general.
