Discussing AMD EXPO kits and their compatibility
I built a setup with an AMD Ryzen 7500f and two 16GB RAM sticks from HyperX Fury Beast at 5600 MHz CL30. I initially wanted 6000 MHz sticks with a CL30, but the store misordered them. I plan to return the incorrect sticks on Saturday for the 6000 MHz CL30 package. The main issue is that my current kit only works with Intel XMP, while my motherboard supports AMD EXPO and XMP. In the BIOS I’ve turned on XMP for this configuration. To add the new 6000 MHz kit with EXPO support, would I need to reset the CMOS? Also, could you suggest RAM kits that fully back AMD EXPO? Thanks.
XMP profiles remain valid and should function properly. They will default to 4800MHz unless you adjust it in the UEFI settings. Intel processors typically support reduced clock speeds, so a very low+tight configuration like 6000 might not work well with Ryzen 7000 chips. You’d just need to check if the recommended timings fall within 30-38-38-96, which usually works on Ryzen 7000. If they’re tighter or lower, stability could be an issue. Remembering that the memory controllers on Ryzen are located in the I/O die together with the iGPU matters; the fact that the 7500f’s iGPU is off might affect performance but isn’t clear without more data.
I think these are excellent, significantly improved over the 5600 CL40. I've experimented with several DDR5 builds, favoring the 36-36-36-76 configuration since the 7950x3D prioritizes lower latencies over minimal timings compared to non-3D v-cache CPUs. Regardless, 36-38-38-96 seems ideal for the final timing results.
The details about timing and speed will appear on the label attached to the actual RAM modules upon delivery, ensuring transparency if the vendor changes their terms.
