Check your current setup carefully. Your ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING has BIOS version 0601. The Ryzen 2600 supports upgrades, but the 5800X3D requires a compatible motherboard with BIOS version 6601 or newer. Make sure your existing motherboard meets that requirement before proceeding. If not, you’ll need to replace it or install a new one that supports the 5800X3D.

The manufacturer's site states compatibility with BIOS version 3211. Proceed with updating the BIOS and continue. Keep in mind that the thermal compound may cause the CPU to adhere to the heatsink, so exercise caution. The instructions for updating the BIOS are also provided there.

You're more concerned about VRM stability and overall system health. Since you haven't updated your BIOS yet, it's wise to follow safety steps: check compatibility, back up data, and consider a controlled update. Your 2600 model may still receive support after an update, but verify the latest documentation for confirmation.

I understand the latest BIOS release. I'm checking whether using that specific CPU would work well with your motherboard and what precautions you need to take to avoid damaging it.

The VRM is in good condition. You won’t need to overclock the 5800X3D, and the updated BIOS should also function with your existing CPU. Even without those changes, updating the BIOS with the older CPU will still get you going.

Also, keep the USB drive connected while updating or power remains stable, and it should function properly. BIOS updates have become simpler in recent years. Even if you damage the device, there are methods to update its BIOS to the chip itself, though assistance may be required.

No, you don't need a CPU or other components installed on the motherboard with the ASUS EZ FLASH 3. It works without them.
