I’m checking if I can skip the PL2 setting and stick to 65 watts. Would that improve performance or should I lower the voltage or halt it from reaching higher power levels?
trying to conserve energy, I upgraded for better efficiency but should have chosen a more efficient option. I aimed for under 95 watts, yet the Intel PL2 in my 1045T model exceeds 120 watts, which is more than I wanted. I thought it usually stayed around 65 watts, but I noticed TTechPowerUp mentioned it could easily go higher. I’m moving from a 95-watt version and, because of the binning, ended up using 103 watts—significantly lower than what the Intel i5-10400F would typically consume.
It adds a noticeable amount to your electricity cost when compared to the default stock settings.
Are you concerned about load or idle power? Idle power is significantly reduced, which is what you typically notice. Reducing power limits can save a small amount of energy, but it won’t make much of a difference on your electricity bill. For gaming, it might cost around $5 per year on average.
Not much information about your PC, just a general note on that setup.
