Discuss overclocking the 11900K
Hello everyone, I own a PC used mainly for music production. It’s an i9 11900k with Asus Maximus XIII HERO G.Skill DDR4 Trident Z RGB 2x32GB 4400Mhz. The system runs F4-4400C19D-64GTZR, Dark Rock Pro 4, and I’m using a Platinum PSU at 850W. I haven’t overclocked before, so I’m relying on Asus AI overclock instead. My goal isn’t to push the hardware to its limits, but to achieve stable performance for my work.
I followed these steps to try overclocking:
1. Restart BIOS and set default values.
2. Boot into Windows 11 Pro and run Cinebench for 10 minutes.
3. Restart again and enable AI optimization in BIOS (without XMP).
4. Restart once more and run Cinebench for another 10 minutes.
The results were stable performance, with CPU temps around 80°C, core voltage near 1.3x, but RAM only reached 2666Mhz—not the full 4400Mhz. The CPU clocked about 4850Mhz. When I tried XMP settings, the system would freeze after a few minutes and display a blue screen. It also crashed when adjusting BIOS limits or tweaking RAM speed.
I’ve checked that all drivers are up to date, memory passed testing with Memtest64, and CPU tests cleared with Intel Extreme Tuning.
What might be causing this? Could the cooler limit overclocking? Is the RAM not compatible? Am I hitting the hardware’s maximum? Please advise!
Compare a standard chip with one that's been boosted by workloads. For consistent performance, keep the original speed.
