XP was poor quality, but 64-bit Vista performed significantly better just one year after the updates were made.
XP is my top choice, even though Windows 7 performs better and looks nicer. XP really feels like it belongs to me.
To me, Windows XP was a great OS. I remember when I finally had my own personal computer, one of Mum's old computers, it had Windows 98 on it and when Windows XP was released I remember installing it on that PC and thinking how excited I was about having this amazing new OS on my computer. It was awesome! I remember that one of the things I got quite excited about was that the mouse curser had a shadow behind it (I know, ridiculous right?) Then I bought my first Windows Vista based PC and I remember at the time thinking it was so much better than XP, however several months later I realised just how slow Vista really was until the "magical" update that was way overdue and this sped up Vista quite a lot. But then along came Windows 7 and boy was this a huge upgrade compared to the sluggish Windows Vista. When I first upgraded my Windows Vista based PC to Windows 7 there was a massive improvement in speed. Finally my computer was feeling as though it was flying (unlike Windows Vista which felt more like it was powered by Turtles). Things I had done in Windows Vista that were sluggish performed so much quicker in Windows 7 and I think I can declare (and I think the vast majority would agree) that Windows 7 is the best OS that Microsoft has EVER made.
