Hello, your brother is planning to purchase a PC within a $1000 budget (pretax about $934 after 7% tax). I believe this option suits him well, especially with the student account available. The link you shared offers a good value. My main concern is ensuring he can assemble and customize it himself, while we can handle some final upgrades together. Specifically, we need to verify if the prebuilt unit’s motherboard supports upgrades like adding another 16GB RAM stick and expanding storage to 1TB. He also wants long-term reliability—around six years of use with moderate modifications. Please let me know if you’d like advice on selecting a model that meets these requirements.

It's tough to deliver this by the end of February, and he's pushing for it right away. Considering the prices, it's around $1225, which is a bit higher than the $940 plus the costs for RAM and storage you mentioned.

the situation hinges on specific details, but generally, the motherboard seems minimal with limited expansion options. it’s wise to search for a graphics card suited to your budget on both used and new platforms. a 3060ti fits your price range, though availability varies by location.

I wouldn't stress about swapping the motherboard. The main problem is it only includes one 8GB RAM stick. You'll have to purchase another, but overall, if you manage to get it right now at that price with the 5700XT included, I’d likely choose it.
