Hi, four weeks ago a friend's laptop emitted a popping noise twice or three times when connected to a power supply. He described using it the night before without power, then leaving it on a table with the power supply plugged in but not directly connected. During a thunderstorm that night, he reconnected the laptop and later heard pops again. Despite this, the laptop functioned perfectly afterward, and he continued using it normally. He ran tests afterward, including 3D mark checks, and everything worked just fine. It seems the issue might have been minor static from the storm—possibly harmless. However, it’s still wise to check for any lingering problems before deciding whether to take it to a repair shop. If unsure, a professional assessment would be best.

Not attending the presentations? I haven’t used a laptop in years, but when I did, I experienced noises because of power spikes when the device was turned off.

The laptop was off. Something I overlooked was the pop noise, which sounded similar to pressing a plastic bottle with your thumb and then letting go.

It might have been a brief electrical spark entering the speaker. If it functions and doesn’t produce the pop noise after power cycles, I wouldn’t be too concerned.
