Disabling hardware acceleration leads to artifacts and crashes?
PC Specifications
Mobo: MSI B550 Tomahawk
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
GPU: RTX 3060 12GB
RAM: 32GB DDR4
PSU: Corsair RM750x
Attempted to turn off hard acceleration on Windows 11 to save VRAM, but after restarting and logging in the system started to behave erratically—flickering screens, artifacts, and program crashes (Steam, Valley Benchmark, etc.). Once I re-enabled it and restarted, everything worked properly.
Could this have been caused by a faulty GPU or CPU? Wouldn’t I expect issues during gaming if those components were problematic? Others have reported similar experiences?
Also worth noting, I’m using an older driver (566.36) since I’ve faced the usual black screen problems with NVIDIA drivers and many suggest switching to that version. This has been my first issue in months.
I'm currently running a version prior to release (7C91vAI1, Beta).
It's typical. Certain programs function without it, but most don't anymore. Consider updating the BIOS and GPU drivers; if black screens persist, revert to version 566.36.
It seems it was actually the GPU driver that caused the problem. After the update, the system is stable and acceleration is off! By the way, I just remembered you're the same person who assisted me with the PSU arcing issue a few weeks back. Just wanted to apologize if I made you worry with my questions—I was really stressed out lol. Thanks!
