I repositioned all components except the CPU after switching the power supply. I was nervous about doing it again since the CPU came with the original cooler, and I knew it could be tough to take it out using the standard thermal paste without extra paste available.

Reasonable point, probably won’t add much value so skip the thermal paste waste.

It seems the mainboard might be the issue. I'm not sure if a B550 would fit the second-gen Ryzen without an upgrade. You might want to check compatibility before deciding.

You don’t have a riser available? Probably won’t help much, though it might be worth a shot if you have one nearby. Do you have a close-up view of the pins on the GPU and the PCIe slot? A mismatched pinout or slot could cause issues.

They should work, both AM4 models are compatible. The B550 tomahawk supports AMD Ryzen™ 5000 and 3000 series, but not the newer Ryzen™ 5 or 3400G/3200G. The X570 boards appear to have a chipset that works with second-gen Ryzen, though it's unclear if you should proceed that far in your search. The B450 boards seem to cover second and third-gen chipsets and can handle the fifth-gen with a BIOS update, though you may need a higher-tier board for better VRMs.
