That’s why the search function on my computer failed—I wish they hadn’t forced Cortana into the operating system so tightly. I think keeping the Windows 8 search alone would have worked better, and letting Cortana handle everything else would have been simpler.

I'm unsure if this fully turns it off, but in Enterprise Cortana can be turned off via the Group Policy editor. It's disabled on my PC with Windows 10 1703, and it seems the same in Pro. Instead of editing Group Policy, you can disable it by adding a registry key called AllowCortana. You can find more details on how to remove Cortana here: https://www.ctrl.blog/entry/how-to-disable-cortana. Disabling the Cortana Group Policy shouldn't break anything, though some features might stop working. I haven't seen any missing functions yet, except for searches in the Start menu which still function properly.
