I've reviewed the previous version (the updated one is 2.0) and it has issues with multi-core CPUs: https://forums.codemasters.com/topic/181...ent=391577. I attempted this myself, but the same problems persist. What options do I have? They suggested turning off "STM," but that’s not advised. Why does this newer game fail on modern systems while an older one from years ago runs smoothly? Are you kidding me? The GPU is 1660. Any suggestions? Should I constantly disable this STM setting on the BIOS when playing? Ugh. Already checked "verify cache files" on Steam.

I own Dirt Rally with an i7-8700k OC CPU. I haven’t experienced any crashes even with default settings, so I think the issue is likely hardware-related, possibly an AMD problem. I’m not sure. In your post you mentioned a solution, and you’re also suggesting disabling SMT—since it’s an AMD feature that supports multiple threads, you can turn it off in the BIOS for testing. Try these alternatives instead: checking cache or other universal fixes that people share in such forums. Useful link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIWO-821vik

Sure, I attempted that approach. I was considering SMT but thought there might be a more effective way to achieve the desired result, especially if I proceed with that method.

Consider restarting the installation or reapplying the graphics card driver.

Starting from scratch seems unnecessary, yet you can also seek guidance on reinstalling the system, updating drivers, or replacing the SSD. It might be a guess, but it could also point to hardware issues like faulty memory or overclocking (whether done by the user or by the manufacturer). Adjusting stock settings or lowering GPU performance might also help. Most likely, though, the problem lies in the game code if multiple people face the same issue.

the first is not pointless, it is a guranteed hard reset on the game files, so that if anything that may be corrupted is replaced. and if you're such a genius with what will and won't work, why did you bother making a thread asking for help? i mean, clearly everyone elses thoughts are irrelevant so why bother posting?

I'm not trying to be original here. Advice like "reinstall xxx" is just common practice that everyone understands and can attempt. If someone needs assistance, they usually expect a more detailed approach. For instance, perhaps someone familiar with Dirt Rally has found a fix. I was only assisting with SMT and thought the link provided might offer useful guidance for users on AMD systems. The game itself doesn't crash under different configurations, unlike some titles that behave unpredictably.

This occurs because the software uses various game engines and older engines may struggle with specific hardware. If you encounter problems with SMT, you can turn off multithreading without altering BIOS settings. Access the game properties via the right-click menu in the library list within Steam, enter -onethread into the box, click OK, and test. If it doesn't function correctly, proceed with disabling SMT.

The uninstallation and reinstallation process didn't succeed. Onethread wasn't available, so I'm trying SMT disabled but can't locate it in the BIOS settings for my motherboard. The manual link you shared is helpful.
