I encountered an issue installing new games because of a DirectX error. The problem lies with advpack.dll after attempting a manual DirectX install. The message reads: "Error creating process <path>. Reason: INDOWS\system32\advpack.dll". Make sure the path is correct and that you're not missing any steps. Let me know if you need further assistance.

My earlier suggestions weren't ideal (you won't see them in the registry). Could you share your username? Sometimes users assign names with special characters, which can cause issues. If the real issue lies with advpack.dll, you can try: link it. This is from my Windows 10 64-bit version 1809. Place the unpacked files in c:\windows\system32 after installation.

I only work with the provided files and can't modify System32 or its contents.

Take charge. Or at least look at the two versions side by side.

Easy Fix 1. (Windows 10) Press the Windows key, right-click and choose "System", then locate "System Info", click the "System" tab, and select "Advanced System Settings". On Windows 7/8.1, right-click "My Computer" and choose "Properties", then go to "Advanced System Settings".

Next, open the "System Properties" window and click the "Advanced" tab if not already there.

Then, locate the "Environment Variables" section and click the bottom button labeled "Edit".

You’ll see a window listing your temporary folders. Rename them temporarily to "TMP1" and "TEMP1" (or similar) for testing.

After that, click "New" under "User Variables". Set both "TEMP" and "TMP" to point to the original locations (e.g., C:\Temp).

Save and restart the installation.
