DirectX 8.0c and 9.0 installation issues reported, but system indicates successful setup.
I tried using the older version, but it didn’t function. I made sure to use 32-bit builds and there are no errors in the installer. The issue comes from programs attempting to access a missing DirectX library.
Many titles from that era came with a DX installer on their storage drive. Have you experimented with those?
For @Radium_Angel the installer appeared functional, completing roughly half the setup before confirming installation. Using a D3D application resulted in an error stating "unable to create d3d device." I'm currently testing other programs and attempting a directx reinstall.
Newest video card drivers are available, and the device appears correctly. Chipset drivers seem ideal. AGP isn't supported on this system. I own two units with uncertainty marks—one labeled "other PCI bridge device" and another "PCI simple communications controller." The second appears to be a modem; the first is likely Ethernet. I plan to install one of these drivers, remove the modem, but doubt it will succeed. For @Radium_Angel, Geek Uninstaller didn't find Direct X, which aligns with its repeated installation failures.
I found a source for a DX remover (though I can't access it right now). It might be worth checking.
Learn how to perform a DirectX diagnostic on XP to identify issues. Consider launching the installer with administrator privileges. XP's built-in safeguards might block unauthorized software, while SP3 offers similar protection. In certain scenarios, you might need to restore the registry.
I think I need to clean the registry, not sure how tho. I also have no admin account on this thing, there is only one account and it is the admin. I will try that link in a couple of hours, and see what happens. If you wanted to describe how to clean the registry, that would be cool.
