DIMM advice for AM4, freezes, QVL or not?
Is it necessary to upgrade or keep this system? The Ryzen 7 5800X and other components are still functional, but performance drops significantly. I’m experiencing random freezes under light CPU loads—first as programs failing to close, then the start menu and Task Manager behaving oddly. The mouse works fine, which is unusual. I suspect issues with the motherboard or power supply, possibly related to the AM4 B-series chips. I upgraded from an older build, but the problem persists on a new setup with similar specs except for storage and RAM. I’m considering whether the RAM issue from QVL could help, though Samsung chips with loose timings aren’t ideal. The system feels unstable, especially under higher loads. I have 14 days to decide whether to return the parts or try further troubleshooting.
Your latest setup wasn’t listed in the QVL previously. I’m using it smoothly with my 5800X. It looks like there might be some stability problems, possibly related to the RAM or timing configuration on AM4 boards. I’d suggest sticking to one RAM module and adjusting all the settings manually to check if that improves things.
I'm using the Patriot setup with XMP and custom timings in the kit's EEPROMs. It's been stable for a month, but freezing still occurs occasionally. Could you tell me which chipset is running without issues?
