I have my primary router in a corner of the first floor, and on the opposite side of the ground floor I’m losing signal from the 2.4GHz WiFi. I’m considering upgrading to the 5GHz band because it offers faster speeds, but I’m curious—can anyone suggest methods to widen the Wi-Fi coverage? Extending the range could definitely be a great solution.

Two routers are suggested because wireless extenders don’t work well. The video clarifies their downsides and recommends a mesh network as a better alternative.

You might need a repeater or extender, or extend the network with cable to an access point. Powerline networking is another possibility—leveraging your current electrical wiring as a communication path. I haven’t tried it before, but it could work for you.

I ended up purchasing a rugged LAN cable and connected it to the backup router.

I skipped powerline networking because I believe it’s been over 17 years on the upper floor and more than 35 years on the lower level—no one really knows what’s going on with the wiring inside my home. That’s why I went back to the reliable old network cable.

It's already concerning. In the UK, wiring needs checking every five years because issues can arise, and it seems we've never faced the extreme problems seen elsewhere.

It seems like a significant amount of money is being collected every five years.

Its probably due to our dumb ring-wiring, if there's a break then the whole circuit can draw twice as much as the cable can carry without tripping. Its the one thing I think is stupid about our standards. There's probably also an element that if they say 5 years they know people are reluctant and will wait 10, say 10 and they might wait 20. Also its 5 for landlords, 10 for privately owned - although social housing they don't seem to give two hoots. Ours was due in 2008 and they didn't decide to try until the middle of the pandemic which we promptly said "I don't think so". I'm fairly sure its in a better state today than right after it was re-wired anyway, as I found they had screwed one of the outlets earths into the sheathing - causing the surge protector to not work when we got hit by lightening.

In India, we face challenges with regulations and laws, as the presence of 1.3 billion people leads to mismanagement, plus financial problems and other critical issues.
